Welcome to the NeuroImaging Core Unit Munich (NICUM), a cutting-edge research facility nestled within the Munich Center for Neurosciences - Brain and Mind (MCN-LMU), LMU's Department of Psychology, the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, and Polyclinic for Children's and adolescent psychiatry, psychosomatics and psychotherapy. Established in 2020 with support from the German Research Council (DFG) and LMU Munich.
At NICUM, we're equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a Siemens Magnetom Prisma 3 Tesla research scanner, an MR-compatible EEG-MRI (Brain Products) setup, advanced neurophysiological tools (ECG, respiration, GSR, MEPs), TMS-MRI, a neuronavigation, and eye tracking systems, plus a stimulus presentation VPixx system. Our facilities also feature two soundproof and electrically shielded cabins for comprehensive behavioral and neurophysiological studies (including eye tracking, EEG, TMS-EEG, ECG, HRV, andMEPs). You can learn more about NICUM's technical specifications by clicking the following link: Specifications.
Our mission melds modern human cognitive neuroscience methods – fMRI, structural imaging, electrophysiological measurements, and stimulation techniques – with behavioral and neurobiological research (e.g., genomics). This multimodal approach maximizes the benefits of our diverse imaging platform. We are also committed to educating the next wave of cognitive neuroscience researchers, offering specialized training programs at GSN-LMU (e.g., the M.Sc. in Neuro-Cognitive Psychology).
